About us

Mending Minds Portland was established in 2024 following the tragic loss of long time local Jarrod Barclay to suicide. Jarrod was a husband, father, son, brother and mate, with his death having a significant impact on many. Jarrod’s story like many others is a powerful reminder of why mental health awareness and support is so important - especially for men who are less likely to reach out for help.

We exist to create change.

On average 9 lives are lost per day in Australia, 7 of those being men with the numbers increasing!

Our goal is to challenge stigma, open up conversations, and provide support to those who need it most. We believe that by bringing people together and fostering understanding, we can make a meaningful difference in the lives of individuals, families, and the wider community.

Our Mission

  • Reduce stigma around mental health

  • Support men’s mental health and wellbeing

  • Prevent suicide through awareness and early intervention

  • Create safe spaces for open and honest conversations

  • Empower individuals to seek help and support others
